Of course a common measuring system should be metric! The simple reason b= eing that it is based on a logical decimal system, which is also why it has be= en chosen as the international standard system (SI units). I completely disa= gree in the statement that a non-metric system should be easier for mental calculations, measurements in the field etc etc. For me it's quite the opposite way around - it's just a matter of habit! Having been brought up= with the metric system (ok I admit I'm a little biased, but so are ANYONE argu= ing for any other system) I don't find it harder than anyone else to do that = kind of calculations. Also, which of the many non-metric systems should then b= e used?? I think the metric system is here to stay - like it or not!
