It's very difficult to get these kind of data. There is a case (you'll read more details in the article when you get it) where two divers with nearly identical profiles got nearly idenitcal, severe neurological DCI. One opted to do IWR on air, while the other was taken by the boat to shore and subsequently flown to the nearest chamber (about 2 hours total post-DCI symptoms). The guy who went for the chamber died before he got there, and the boat went out and found the IWR guy hours later, apparently asymptomatic. This case is, at best, anecdotal. Unfortunately, there are very few cases where direct comparison between surface O2 & IWR can be made (there are a couple of cases where surface IWR was unsuccessful, but IWR was, but again, it's difficult to draw any real conclusion). Even with a database, I'm afraid support for the practice of IWR will come from qualitative data, rather than quantitative data. > PS *any* database for IWR would be useful. Actually, the vast majority of reported IWR cases are from commercial diving fishermen in Hawaii (VERY low-tech...single-steel 72s, no B.C., etc.) In any case, SOMEONE should keep structured records, and I hope like hell it doesn't have to be me :-) Aloha, Rich deepreef@bi*.bi*.ha*.or*
