Jess, you are right on with the concept of using a convoluted piece of
tomfollery to solve a self-inflicted problem - it is the bondage wing
sydrome. These jack leg break reels are the worst pieces of shit I have
ever seen. I would not use one to play with my cat. Smithers is dead
right on the reel thing as well - you can not appreaciate the reels and
spools we use until one of the others screws up on you.

I can tell people how to do things nicely, but not after they have been
an asshole about it. You just piss on them with a smile on your face,
and as you suggest I get pissed having seen the results of the stroke
ways.

I went diving yesterday with two guys who used to argue with me bitterly
on here. One of these guys I think would make a good addition to JJ's
GUE team, the other is not in the business, but I showed him something
on the gear with no problem at all doing it "nicely" and having it make
sense, but he was not being a jerk , either. He just never saw it done
the other way. No big deal to change.

Some things need the boot in the ass, others are not such emergencies,
but are fine points. The problem is that as the dives get trickier, the
little things become huge. The fine points become everything.

Look at this McGurr death - he has to call his dive due to some
self-inflicted clusterfuck and it ends up killing him.

On a broader note, the guys who get the big results have the little
things worked out, like the WKPP and those who can't get it done do not
have them worked out, like the usdct. Look at JJ's trip to the Britanic
vs that stroke Kevin Gurr, for instance. Walk in the park vs a
strokefest.
