I see on JT Barker's web page in his pictures from the McGurr Doria dive that he marks his bottles correctly ( almost - the word "feet" is unnecessary. Only the depth and the name of the owner are needed). This I was astounded to see in public display on a New England dive boat. Then I was equally amazed to see that with JT geared up in his full "kit", he looked SIGNIFICANTLY slicker than the rest of these strokes. Here is my question. How can these guys up there see this and still rig up like train wreck and not feel absolutely stupid by comparison? I was even more amazed to see that JT looks like the guys I play in a band with and not the usual boat captain. Where is the beard, the gut, and pizza stained Doria shirt? JT, can you play "Secret Place" to where my wife comes screaming into the garage and threatens to call the police on us herself? But now I really have a question. JT, with your obvious leaning towards proper gear rigging, and assuming that with this goes the rest of the credo, like "don't leave your wingman", why are you still having trouble figuring out the McGurr situation? If I had seen these pictures prior to my first comments, I merely would have referenced the URL to them as my comment , and added the comment that "how could you tell what killed him when so many things should have?" The deck of the boat around him looks like a police evidence table in a stupidity investigation. But thn how can we ever know ( what of the many possibilities killed him ) since per SOP for the "every man for himself diving practiced in New England, his buddies left him? JT - case closed - this was a strokefest. You said in there that the "trip went bad" - it went bad before it left the dock. New England wreck diving is a disgrace of complete idiocy and strokery, interspersed with a few of you who are trying to do things properly. My bet is you do not beat the regulators to the end of it as we know it as a sport up there. Down here the strokes get taught strokery by the training agencies, and end up falling out of diving or doing the RB Johnson every weekend unitl they get sick of it. In cave diving being a stroke basicly precludes one from getting anything done and makes it a miserable , frustrating, humiliating ,scary experience, so none of the trainees of the idiots get to first base unless they are retrained by the WKPP. You guys have a serious problem up there, and need to step up and be counted towards the solution in a proactive manner - example is obviously not working, good or bad. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
