Tod, we all start life with a PFO. In 30% of us it does not completely close or heal over to some degree. There are also atrial septal defects, there is a spot up the artery from the left side that occasionally has a defect to the right atria, there are pulmonary shunts of different types, and so forth. This is not the same as valve problems. If you are getting CNS hits, I would not dive. If you have some form of PFO, conduct youself accordingly. I personally love diving, but would not continue it if it were presenting this kind of threat to me. There are a lot of people walking around out there who are candidates for injury, and they need to know it. The industry calls these injuries "unearned hits" - who's kidding who? tgunther@co*.co* wrote: > > Kevin: > > May I assume that if one does not fare well on their PFO, the immediate result > should be to build more conservatism into their dive profile? > > Are poor PFO's a genetic disposition or a result of poor health/age/fitness? > > Thanks, > Tod > > -- > Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. > Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
