Your reference to US Navy use of air to 190' while technically correct =
is misleading at best. The Navy prohibits any open circuit SCUBA =
diving below 130' except in cases of "operational necessity" and then =
to a max depth of 190'. Planned deco dives on SCUBA is also =
prohibited. In practice I have never seen SCUBA dives below 130' and =
those for very short durations on very rare occasions.

The Navy does dive surface supplied to 190' on air, but the degree of =
topside control of the diver reduces the associated danger =
dramatically. A diver more severely impacted than normal (which is =
non-trivial!) would be recognized by his topside crew in his responses =
to verbal communication. Being surface supplied, the diver cannot go =
off into the depths on his own. In the event of a real problem with =
the diver, his buddy can always locate him or the standby diver is =
available to help out. Also requirements for dives at this depth =
include a chamber in the immediate vicinity of the dive site and a =
Diving Medical Officer on site.

Comparison of this type of air diving to typical civilian diving is =
completely inappropriate.

Mr. Silverstein, with all due respect, your post is BS!
