No one else I know does either. If O2 is at least as narcotic as >N2, why doesn't this happen (PPO2 at 1.6)? > >Merry Christmas > >Christina > Christina, If oxygen is equa-potent to nitrogen, why should you get narced at 20 fsw on pure oxygen??? If equa-potent to nitrogen, then the effects on 100% oxygen at 20fsw should be the same as breathing air at 20fsw. Do YOU get narc'd at 20fsw on air????? Even if we assume that oxygen in air does NOT contribute to the narcosis seen with air, 20fsw on 100% oxygen should have the same effect as air at 40 fsw (1.75 ATA of nitrogen). Do you get narc'd at 40fsw??? Realize that narcosis due to nitrogen requires depths that produce partial pressure of nitrogen around 4 ATA. I know that I would be very hard pressed to distinguish between CNS oxygen tox. and oxygen narcosis when exposed to 4 ATA of oxygen. Hope this helps - John PS - EUBS is the European Undersea and Biomedical Society.
