Doug - First, let me say that the scuba pro mk20/g250 is an excellent reg, and will suit your environment well., and I will definitely get slammed by the florida folk for this one. Since I believe that the Apeks regs are as high quality, cheaper, similar breathing characteristics, and a lot easier to get parts for (for a retail customer), I choose to use the Apeks Tech-DS4 combination. Stay away from the tech 50 combo, it is unnecessarily complicated, and the DS4 has the same guts. I dive in 42-49f water on a regular basis (10f-90f air temp), and have had no problems with any freezing or malfunctioning. I went through two hp seats in a row on one (of three) of my first stages, but after a cursory cleaning of the seat area, the reg has been working flawlessly. Neither seat failure was catastrophic, just an annoying creep 145-155psi Some say the piston style regs are a little more hi-po, but I opt for the env. sealed diaphram in cold salt water for reasons of reliability and maintenance, and I've done a side by side comparison of the mk20/g250 and Tech-DS4, and properly tuned, they both breath equally sweet. The DS-4 first stages work excellent for the DIR configuration, see my previous posts on hose routing with these regs. a slightly longer (1" or so) lp inflator and backup 2nd stage hose is necessary over the mk20, but other than that, all the hoses can be run the same, and tend to leave the area behind the head a bit more clear.
