Subject: Re: Stainless Steel Bolt Snaps
Pete, besides there being all kinds of brass ( like steel ) with some
having bullshit coatings or internal parts and sticking, and most being
too short-shanked to operate properly ( you have solved that problem),
the other big reason we do not use them is that they are softer and tend
to become jammed if bumped against something, as in two bottles hitting
each other, or in handing of the tanks on land or boat. They also tend
to have sharp edges in the thumbslide and cut wet fingers.

In general, I like gear that I can use for all diving with no
mondifications. Since it does no harm to have oversized bolt snaps on
the gear for warm water, I leave the big ones on for the rare times that
I may use gloves just out of principle. In reality, if I need gloves, I
am lobster diving or have taken leave of my senses.
