on the topic of skin bends, jess describes his case as "slobitis" which is
a "type of skin bends". my question is, what other types of skin bends are
there and the accompanying signs & symptoms?

a short time ago, i had to treat a recreational diver who got skin bends.
he and his buddies had been diving for 6 straight days often pulling
100'/30m + dives in the morning followed by shallower pm dives. on the 6th
day of diving, he ran into the restaurant after a morning dive and said
that he thought he had skin bends. a rash had developed on his back and
chest and he felt popping sensations and mild pain in the areas of the
rash. he said that he got really concerned when his skin popped and some
blood (i did not directly observe this, btw) came out prompting him to run
in and seek treatment.

after about an hour on 02, he said he felt fine, got up and walked away
refusing further treatment.

"it was probably just a wet-suit rash," he said.

i guess this illustrates how insidious skin bends can be because many
divers simply regard it as benign.

his rash was reddish and very fine in texture - not like the stuff you get
when you're whacked by fire coral. it covered an area about 12"/30cm x
10"/25cm on his chest and back.

thanks in advance for your responses. dive safe!
