Subject: Re: Cathedral Canyon
Al, we actually used a longer route than 18,065, but counted only the
survey that would follow the shortest route. The 18K end is a T off of
the 14,100 end, and the 14,265 end is a T off of the O Tunnel. The way
we go actually makes the trip closer to 19,000. There is a longer way
still, but it has nearly 10,000 feet of clear water . The only reason we
do not use that one is it has several 200 foot peaks followed by 300
foot troughs that make you use too much argon on the suit. The usdct
missed that side of the cave altogether since we forgot to put it on the
map. There is a monster spring in Wakulla bigger than B, C, and D
combined that runs for miles parallel to the A and O Tunnels. We left
that little fact out of our discussions thinking cororectly that the
usdct would spend their full energies trying to go to the end of O
Tunnel, which has no end. We "let it slip" to them that we use K Tunnel
instead of A Tunnel, which is bullshit so they would not go past the
entrance to the Spring, which is obscured by the Mountain's bad vis.
Their little mapper seemed to be blind to this tunnel as well. They
could not have gotten to the end of the Spring or even reached back to O
using this route, but we they could have gotten to the huge labyrinth of
tunnels that comprise it that we did not have time to get before we were
booted out. My littel trick of taunting them about not being able to "
go the distance" worked to keep them from seeing any of the open cave,
and only beating their heads against the wall. We all knew they could
not get anywhere near the end of any part of O or any of its side
tunnels, which are all wide open, and we were right.
