Might I remind everyone that Helium mixes have many more advantage's than just the reduction in inert gas narcosis. Although the reduction in narcosis is a very BIG advantage many of the other physiological advantages are often overlooked aspecially on this mailing list. Helium based mixes offer a greater reduction in breathing resistance which would more than likely reduce the likelyhood on CO2 retention thus reducing the likelyhood of DCS through acidosis, Hb bonding, ect. ect. ect.. Helium based mixes also offer some very nice offgasing properties due to lack of lipid solubility (and the retention there of) and the permating characteristics of this fine mono atomic gas. Helium based mixes are also being used for their reduction in isobaric counter diffusion, for good reasons. Helium based mixes also offer the possibility to reduce the FO2 of your bottom mix there for reducing the likelyhood of peroxidization to many different tissues towards the end of your dive.
