Jon, I had the opportunity to talk with Mel last July in Key West. He was then offering a one tank dive at the "emerald sight" of the wreckage for an "investment" of $5000US. You got to keep any one item you found during that dive however. Luckily I had left my wallet and checkbook in the car. After an hour with Mel, you really believed you were going to find 10 carat emerald! As we left his office in the museum/tourist trap and capital building of the Conch Republic, Mel with a carton of cigarettes in his hand and the consummate salesman said "we're going out this afternoon and TODAY IS THE DAY!". RIP Mel... you were one of a kind.
