When I was trying to get my wife to use a backplate system, I had her on the Halcyon integrated weight system. This was because she felt that she would be more comfortable knowing that she could ditch the extra weight. I had tried unsuccessfully for a long time to get her to balance her rig, but she always felt more comfortable being slightly negative. The Halcyon IWS is very nice and secure, and was designed to conform to the DIR system. You could slip the canister light easily onto the right side where a sewn-in webbing tab is available as well as a sewn-in ScubaPro buckle. The left side has a sewn-in webbing with D-ring. The outside pockets are contoured and lined to distribute the pressure on the hips. The weight pockets are secured inside the outer pockets by buckles. The whole system is kept in place by the waist webbing from the backplate, and held by extra tabs which connected to the lower tank bolt. After a few dives with the backplate and the IWS, I am happy to say that my wife has "ditched" the IWS and balanced her rig - no extra weight is required. The Halcyon IWS is recommended for people who need to carry extra weights to compensate for positive buoyancy from drysuit, thick wetsuit or too much pizza :-) Phi > ---------- > From: Frank Sonnemans[SMTP:frank.sonnemans@eu*.be*] > Sent: Thursday, May 13, 1999 12:56 AM > To: techdiver@aquanaut.com > Subject: Re: Halcyon experience in Australia? > > How about the Halcyon integrated type weight system? > > I do not have experience with it, but it should be possible to develop > integrated type weight systems which are more reliable than the (al to > often > dropped) weight belt. > > Does anyone use this system? > -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
