This (DIR for open water) has already been covered. Same as DIR but: Aluminum backplate, aluminum tank, smaller wing (18-45 lb). Backup buoyancy is either drysuit, or when using a wetsuit is in the form of a jettisonable weight belt. Tank valve and reg. are both DIN. Long hose for open water is only five feet long. All hoses on same 1st stage or can use 2 regs with an H valve. Same style light, but for rec. diving you only need a 6 A-h pack. This IMO is not rushing it at all, but is the sign of a diver who takes the time to learn the best method available before accepting the word of the instructor. Real smart - and as such will probably be a prime candidate for technical training in the future.
