Lawrence (Hi, I hope things are well with you.) I am normally based in the UK and confirm that Barry Miller's lights are excellent. I have a acrylic (clear) canister and it has served me well over the last 2 years. I had an early on/off switch boot failure which Barry rapidly resolved to my entire satisfaction. So I would like to endorse Lawrence's comments that Barry's customer service is excellent. The only modification I have made to the light is that I found the shrink tubing on the cord at the canister head tended to split on the water tight connection nut. This caused the strain relief function of this shrink wrap to become less effective. I have found that a cut-down (to about 2") plastic hose protector over the shrink tubing and nut works well to provide a more progressive strain relief in combination with the existing shrink wrap. This is based on an clear acrylic AUL Spectrum 14 I owned for 2 years and the black delryn EE14 I own now. I have some friends who have the acrylic EE14 as well. Starting with the light head, the main body appears the same. Main differences is that the adjuster screw is on a lateral plane on the EE, vertical on the AUL. The EE has the inner light unit machined with a ridge that prevents you accidentally pulling the test tube assembly right out of the light head. If you undo the screw far enough you can still remove it. Moving on to the cable, it is thicker than on the AUL, so more durable yet less flexible. Also my old AUL didnt have shrink tubing at either end as a strain relief, the EE does. On the AUL the switch in the lid is central with the cable offset. With the EE it is the other way round, cable central switch offset. The AUL has a captured / receessed o ring in addition to a facing o ring in the lid the EE only has the facing one. The AUL has 3 latches, as opposed to 2 for the EE. Inside the light, the EE has a slot in the bottom and banana plug connectors from the lid to the battery and thus has no moving wire parts. This is why I went for the EE in the end, since after 2 years the wires broke on my AUL, and my buddy had an EE so for compatibilities sake, I got one as well. I think the batteries are the same in both cases, the AUL had the two batteries taped and glued together, whilst the EE has a bulk head in between the batteries keeping internal movement to the minimum. The acrylic one is for cave diving and the black one for wreck diving since you can drop it without it breaking, with the acrylic AUL this was a fear I always had when on a dive boat. This is all based on an old AUL light so I dont know what they might have changed over the past years. Lastly we had some problems, my buddy and I, with our EE lights where they both leaked a little on the same dive, the solution it would seem for wreck diving with the EE is to buy the black canister with the acrylic lid. The delryn lid is more flexible and can bow slightly which we believe may have led to the leak in cold conditions (4C). Anyway lastly but most importantly, customer service from EE is brilliant, for me based in the UK this is imperative when buying US based goods. They are sending us replacement acrylic lids to try out shortly. If i want a Clear light from EE, will it be just like the AUL light. I have heard that the Clear EE lights are almost the same as AUL. and What is the advantage of the black vs. the clear. Personaly i think clear would make a better light due to you can see what the prob is u/w if it is flooded or loss wire etc. or is this just wishfull thinking. Also what is the difference if any of the AUL batt and the EE batt? Ok i think this is my last Question on the lights will also let you all know what light i deside to get.
