I can't speak for BSAC however the current thoery is that our search and rescue
services are good and your time to the get to the nearest chamber is quick.
Add to that factor the typical water temperature over here, the volume of
gas required for IWR, and the lack of availability of large supplies of O2,
IWR is frowned upon.

Whilst a lot of charter boats, some clubs and a few individuals carry O2,
they are not normally rigged for supplying it underwater except in the case
of a very few divers.

I can't help with unsuccessful attempts but I have used IWR for "minor"
symptoms and will continue to do so.
