The current drysuit storage theory, which I follow, is that the zipper must be left open for storage. When you compress any elastomer, it takes a set (compression set) to some degree. Depending on the type and condition of the elastomer, it will recover from this set once the compressing force is removed. The recovery, even if 100%, takes place over a period of time, the length of which is also variable as above. Generally speaking, to get the best seal on anything, you use a nice new, uncompressed o-ring or whatever. A virgin sealing surface to compress and form a seal with is the best. To extend this to drysuit zippers, you'd like to have the sealing surface as uncompressed as possible when you attempt to make the seal. This means storage with the zipper OPEN, until you don the drysuit. You could argue that the zipper teeth fall home in exactly the same place each time, but I think that is irrelevant. Even if they do, they'd like to compress as much rubber as possible each time to form a good seal. If anyone has any opposite theories they'd like to defend, I'm all ears. Do speak up. Thanks! Once dry, I put some talcum powder on every latex seal (inside and out), put some parrafine wax on the zipper, roll up the suit , close the zipper and put it in its bag in a cool, dry place. > > rgrds > > --- > Adri KC Haine > > darkangel@en*.co* > > "Killer factors in technical diving are complacency, attitude, oxygen > toxicity, exceeding personal limits, ignorance and complexity." > > Mike Menduno - EuroTek 95 > > On Wed, 31 Mar 1999 10:03:29 David Shimell (shimell) wrote: > >Jim > > > >So you must configure the same as me?
