I was hoping someone out their could answer a simple (but long winded) question
on the Buhlman tables.

This question came about after a dive completed this weekend. The dive
consisted of Three divers diving Nitrox (all three of us dive self sufficient
so we think of it as partner diving). We have been diving Nitrox since the
start of the year (IANTD Advanced certs) and have to date used it on air tables
(Aladdin Pro computer or Sunto Solution) for the extra safety. This weekend we
decided to see what happened to the computers when they bent - ie dive the
nitrox table decompression schedules. [This was to experience (safely) what
the book was trying to describe, so that if any of our companions where ever
unfortunate enough to miss or cut short a Air deco we would be able to
recognise what the computers where saying.]

Thus for the first time in years we had to dive a table dive and we where using
the buhlemen tables (for 36% nitrox). We had dived tables a long time ago but
had utilised the BSAC tables. BSAC tables define bottom time as time from
entering the water to the ascent stop depth (ie first deco stop or 6m which
ever is deeper) Buhlman defines bottom time as the time from entering the water
to the start of the ascent. The Buhlman tables then require a 10m a minute
ascent rate to the first stop or 3m (if no deco). The question is what happens
if the ascent is halted by say a problem at 20m (ie line entanglement) which
requires you to sort it out - assuming this takes 2-3 mins - what and how is
this penalty added to the dive time - or is it not or is it assumed a set of in
water tables is used to recalc deco requirements (on the fly ???)

I have checked thru as many of my books (eg John Lippman : Deeper into Diving
etc) and cannot find any reference on how to handle an ascent rate being slower
than 10m a min or a interrupted ascent.

Any help much appreciated

G
