I find the mls is not conducive to hip mounting as easily and I personally do
not
like the twist-on lid or the twist-on light head. I know there is a switch
option, but too many other things bother me. If they are still made the same
(as
of a couple years ago), I didn't care for the metal strip battery contact which
allowed for intermittent contact with the lid posts during disassembly. To me,
this posed a concern for a spark in a possibly high Hydrogen atmosphere within
the canister (due to battery offgassing) while the lid was still mechanically
bound to the canister as it had not been fully twisted off. Should a spark
occur
gas pressure increases very quickly. If the pressure is contained due to the
lid(for even a second; less actually), the canister may fracture violently.
Some other lights allocate for this by lid removal (or at least seperation)
before battery disconnect, thereby venting possible Hydrogen before the 'spark'.
Another problem I've had with these (back then), is leaking. Still another,
the contact posts used to break relatively easily. I also did not care for the
'straight' light handle. I know you can get a clip on attachment to make it
like
a 'Goodman' handle, but it's just not too good in my opinion.
Finally, and probably one of my biggest problems; Getting the damn thing
apart with cold, wet hands and that piss ant plastic tool. I don't know how
many
times the plastic tool either broke or slipped off while I drove my hand into
the
ground. Finally, I came home one day after damn near breaking my hand, set the
light on a fence post, and shot it.
BTW, I have never seen any of these lights explode or otherwise do anything
that would jeopardize a persons safety. Also, all this was a few years ago, so
they may be a lot better now. The above is just my own view and opinion.--Jason
