Yes, in a private message to me <Mantis Diving <dive@ma*.co*.au*> suggested the same thing although Paul didn't quite call it a stem gauge (g). A good friend of mine used to be in the NSW Police Diving Unit (lucky blighter is now with the, big breath, GBRMPA) so I have some idea of this. Having regard to the conditions that these guys usually dive in, where they are grid searching along a line (and need to keep a hand on it) and otherwise searching by feel alone, they don't need another item (such as a stem gauge) to keep them busy. Besides, and as I recall when they were the only thing to check tyres with, they were not reliable by any means. Strike, comments please? I'm sure you'd have some input here.
