All I saw a video of the TV reports of this event. It was very difficult to spot anything being done right. As I recall and as reported (we know how accurate the news media is). Peter's buddy decided not the do the dive with him as he had not done sufficient build up dives instead he would act as deep support. On the day things were not right so he did not provide deep support. Peter went ahead with the dive but over ran his planned schedule and they had insufficient contingency gas. He used a full face mask and gas switching block but I could see no backup regulator to his Poseidon in the FFM. Deco on O2 was at 12 m (in water). On the video you could see one of the divers appearing to signal out of gas on the stop. There seemed to be a huge amount of gas being consumed by the support divers judging but the bubbles. These are a few of the things I recall, so I hope there are no inaccuracies. David Shimell Project Manager, Sequent Computer Systems Ltd., Sandton, South Africa.
