Subject: U-2513 & Rhein Hamburg dives
Date: Mon, 01 Mar 1999 11:56:13 PST
Key West, Florida, dives in late September or early October: U-2513,
Rhein Hamburg, and several other unidentified wrecks targeted.

A four day trip out of Key West, with 3 days of anticipated diving is
being arranged. Primary sites are the seldom-visited Rhein Hamburg
(250') and the U-2513 (220'). The remaining dive schedule will be
decided upon by the participating divers; multiple dives on the
principal targets or diving other local unidentified wrecks are
possible.

The trip aboard the 63' vessel includes charter costs, food, beverages,
air or Nitrox to 40%, O2 decompression, and limited surface support.
Bottom gasses will have to be provided by each diver, or He and O2 can
be supplied by the charter for an additional fee (to be worked out when
demands are known). The cost for the four day trip is ~$600. There are
twelve remaining spots. For more information, email
aocfishman@ho*.co*. Serious inquiries only, please. Additional
information on the target wrecks:

U-2513
Type XXI submarine. 252' length.
The U-2513 was the most technologically advanced submarine produced by
the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. Unfortunately, it never
saw action. She was sunk during tests by the USS Robert Owens on 7
October 1951. She rests in approximately 220' of water, 24 miles
northwest of the Dry Tortugas.

Rhein Hamburg
A 453' long German vessel, sunk 11 December 1940. She sits in
approximately 250' of water, but rises to 150'. The wreck was
positively identified in 1991 when Billy Deans recovered the bell.
