The rule of thirds, IMHO, when applied to open water diving, requires you to have at any one time, either 2x or enough gas to get you AND your buddy to the surface, or your first deco stop, if there are safety procedures for deco gas loss in place. This means you don't turn a dive at 1/3 your starting pressure, because "turn" has no meaning in open water. If I turned every dive at 1/3 of the starting pressure, I would return to the surface with 1.95/3 of my starting gas. (In reality, I usually don't even use a third on the whole dive) So, at 3000 starting, 1500 is not an unreasonable amount to "turn" (ie/ start ascending to the first stop) At 04:02 PM 2/1/99 -0600, you wrote: >Jim, do you dive using the rule of thirds?
