Jim, you should give him the whole rundown.  Tom, DIR is more than just
a particular gear configuration, although this is the most essential
part.  DIR is also a combination of attitude, knowledge, discipline,
and survival capability.  The DIR gear config makes it easy to develop
the other (essential) parts, which are together a philosophy for
maximizing diving safety.
