Maggie, I submit that you should calculate your gas requirements as if you are diving with a buddy (I won't tell if you're not). That covers this contingency. My buddy and I each dive with the equivalent of a single 95 and have no trouble obtaining respectable bottom times using a suitable gas plan for no-deco no-penetration dives. That plan includes allowing enough gas to get back on the boat from our maximum excursion from the ascent line. In the event of a "situation", the safety stop can be dropped. After all, that's why the obfuscating nomenclature is used - it is optional (of course, if you have the gas, don't drop it).
