But, Don, what if you have an unbreathable trimix in your backtanks to which you cannot switch at your deco stop, because the mix is hypoxic at that depth? Or have I misunderstood you and do you have to remove your backup reg from your backtanks, and replace the deco reg with it? and even then, you must breathe from some other source for a few moments. (Thats where the buddy comes in, of course) Can someone fill me in on the exact procedure in such a case? As to Carlos' question; If I remember correctly from the DIR II tape, George said that when diving mix with the use of accelerated deco, your 'best' regs should be on you deco bottles. The deep bottles have slightly detuned regs, because the helium is making the mix easier to breathe anyway, and in case of freeflow, they will not empty out your tanks as quickly as a big-bore first stage would. I have to review the tape for the full explanation but I'm sure he will correct me if I'm wrong here.
