Thanks to all who responded to my question regarding the unit
used to express partial pressures in metric-land. I received
quite a few responses.
The majority of respondents in Europe and Japan state that
they use ATA for this purpose. One in France and one in the
U.K. said that there they use bar.
I'm playing with a gas blending program which I originally
wrote assuming Imperial units, and am now in the process of
making it user selectable, metric or Imperial. All of the
unit choices seemed obvious with the exception of PO2. Since
I've not used the metric system in diving applications myself,
I figured I'd ask those who do.
Based on the responses received, here's how I think I will
proceed:
measurement Imperial Metric
-----------------------------------------------
cylinder volume cubic feet Liters
cylinder pressure psi bar
EAD, END, MOD fsw msw
PN2, PO2 ATA ATA
And of course, percentages are just percentages everywhere.
