I just read A book recommended to me by the SACUAB-L group. It is named, "Down To A Sunless Sea" by David Poyer. Being a "California Tech Diver," Deep wrecks and pinnacles, (no penetration without sight of some sunlight) I read this book scared shitless!!! Why the hell would anyone go TO 360 FSW deep 1.5 miles in to a cave only to be in a restriction that you can't turn around in and no go and blow to the surface if shit happens. NOT ME...AT LEAST YET. After this book I have a completely different outlook on cave diving. The rule of thirds is only the beginning. I read the Technical Diving Handbook by Gary G. and it made me realize that I have..well... lots to learn. I thought that the rule of thirds, lot's of diving and a redundant air supply was enough...NOT. Practice....practice...and more training with the right style is what will keep you alive. One might make one dive without it, however, if you chose to make cave diving your life, be ready for a humbling experience. To all you real cavers....you know who your are....Dive safe. I envoy you. I will learn from you and I may never make it, but I will keep training... if not for the caves of Florida...then for the Doria. Read the book.....it's good.. Life is a game, It is meant to be played... -------------------------------------------------------- Robert A. Moriarity Sr -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
