All, Here is a little story depicting the type of logic that gets people killed. I invite all comments so that I can back up the fact that he was way off. I was in Florida this past week and I have had a bout with pneumonia so I wasn't diving but my wife and friends dove. One of my friends was diving a light trimix down to about 135 feet and I helped him cut the tables on DECOM. After his first dive he planned on being out of he water for 2.5 hours and then diving to about 100 ft on air for about 35 min. When he was out of the water from his fist dive I started to cut another set of tables and he said this: He had his air computer with him on the first dive and he said that he had less nitrogen in his tissues than the computer thought and on the second dive he wouldn't be ongassing any more helium so he thought he would be safe just using his air computer to govern the whole dive. We argued back and forth about it but I really didn't know the physiology involved. I did however finally convince him that the helium that was already present may change the way the nitrogen off gasses and that I wouldn't let him back in the water unless he used the correct tables. The big thing is that I told him that he really shouldn't gamble like that with something he really had no clue about. Correct me if I am wrong but the whole point of any type of diving I do is to have FUN and come back in one healthy piece....no guess work! Hopefully somebody can explain all the physiology involved (in layman's terms) so I can talk to my friend (who shall remain nameless).
