 What is the logic behind this? Is watching your buddy die part of your dive
plan, or is this one of IANTD europe's bizarro specialty courses? Or is it a
BSAC thing?

Hint: the correct answer is that you dont worry about redundacy for your
safety after your buddy is dead, you are supposed to help him not get dead in
the first place. One method of doing this is not using bullshit gear like oms
to start with. That way neither one of you has to worry about sticking to the
bottom.  Hello??????
