Just thought I'd answer a few of Stephen's questions > Who else does OW dive 1 from a boat? Students may be prone > to seasickness for a start, they dont know how to get into the water > properly so they are possibly going to be aprehensive about jumping > off the boat, and weight could be a problem as there's nowhere you > can stand and get their salt-water weighting correct. I agree absolutely concerning OW1 from a boat. I had a couple of students come to me and ask why we didn't do the shore dive from Casino Point first. When I become an instructor, I'll make sure I get the students in the water from the shore first... Then do the boat dives for OW3-5 (if I do any boat dives for certifications). I think that there is something frightning about doing your first open water dives from a boat. > if the instructor gets in first and deals with these problems > well and good, but he's lost control of the group (especially > if he needs to descend) which puts the rest of them in trouble > as well. She did deal with the few problems from the entry. She was a Divemaster for a couple of years before becomming an instructor. > was he asthmatic? No. > did he respond at all? a nod or look at you meaningfully or > make any effort to hold onto you? I'd say just a tired kind of "leave me alone for a second" look. No lucid interface at all. No talking. > congrats to all involved for a clean rescue. Thanks. I must admit, the rescue diver course I had taken a few months before really made all the steps pretty much automatic. Not much thinking involved... Just a type of Pavlovian response. <smile> Joe ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are no absolutes in this world. Truth is gray, and it is our job to seek out the truths we wish to follow, remembering never to judge the truths of others. Keep in mind that the difference between right and wrong can be infinitely small if you examine the problem from enough perspectives... and the ability to consider other perspectives is a sign of an advanced soul.
