Thanks to everyone who responded. I hadn't thought of making a form fitting wrist-unit out of plastic, but that seems to be the way to go. I ended up making one out of some plastic I already had; my buddy and I had bought a big (4' x 4') sheet of 3/8" white ABS plastic from a plastic supply store to make our own slates; that big sheet was only about $10. Anyway, some leftover I had turned out to be perfect for this job.
