If it is important for historical reasons, its position now cannot be used as reliable evidence. It may have moved during sinking. Bottom impact may have moved it. Storms over the last 150 may have moved it. >How did USS Monitor builders create a metal-to-metal watertight bow in 1861? Much documentary evidence is available on the building of the Monitor. Again though, who cares? >Where were the ambrotypes found on the wreck of City of Houston? Except for possibly helping to identify their owner, who cares? Even if you can identify the owner, who cares? It is historically insignificant. Again, the condition of the wreck since its sinking in 1878 cannot be used as hard evidence because of natures disturbance of the site. By the way, for those who aren't familiar with this wreck off the North Carolina coast, the guy who did find it salvage/plunder it (depending on your point of view) and his wife started a museum to display some of the artifacts. They also donate or loan other artifacts to other museums. Rick Fincher rnf@sp*.tb*.co*
