Erik, whats really scarey is some people associated with the CDAA organised a fund raiser for the two Australians to particpate in W2 as it apprently is costing them upwards of $30,000 to go, I hope nothing happens to them as I know I wouldn't like to be associated if it goes wrong. Now the "sat" thing is a joke, it must be a joke because running a sat = operation takes vast ammounts of equipment and back up and real money, serious wads of money to be exact. Every second of every minuete of every hour is gas,= sat technicians, electricity (with back up's), food, inter chamber management= , planning etc etc etc the list goes on and on. It's no surprise that the only peopl= e doing most of the sat work in the world are the Oil companies. I'll make example with cost, I was involved with putting a current meter = about 60mt's away from an oil production platform in the North West shelf (Australia) = now the reason was to allow a survey vessel to make close passes by the platform as a = field resurvey was being conducted looking for more drill sites etc and knowing what the cur= rent was doing is very important you could imagine getting 4 kilometers of acoustic stri= ng arround the platform would be a disaster. One current meter on the bottom $55,000 thankyou, because we could not = drop the meter from a barge as the floors covered with pipes we had to use divers, this = involved the usual 130' long tender with shipping containers full of gas, diver accomadation= , generators, fuel, oh and a chamber big enough for two divers and a tech, to keep it in pers= pective the job was one meter about the size of a small garbage can in a frame. The job took = about 2 hours to do and a cable run to the platform the up to the Helideck where there was = a radio modem transmitting the data to the survey vessel. It was a very simple job but = took about 2 weeks to organise and 2 hours to do. Get the picture, when done right and with = lots of money it's not a problem. These guys want to dive sat at Wakulla, it's a joke.
