> In short my motivation is to further the quality of information available > to all divers. You site is lacking!!! Your understanding is lacking!!! Jesus imagine that. A source of information that is not 100% complete, thorough and accurate... I have never ever seen one of those before. There would be precious little information available if every author waited until there was nothing "lacking" about their understanding. > And people are using the deficient information on your site to short cut > the learning process. People tend to find something to use to "shortcut" no matter how much information you manage to "hide". You need to abandon the "hiding" avenue. It does not work. > comment on your skills. However, I met one individual just a few weeks (on > a Friday night) ago that got his "information from the net". He did his > first four "mix dives" (they were actually heliair) about 3 weeks ago. I > saw him again the following Monday morning as I was leaving town. He was > checking out of the motel after a trip to the chamber in Marquette!!! Do > you see a problem with this??? Yes. With the diver. He didn't do his homework properly. You can complain all you want about Jim's site, but in the end the responsibility comes down to the diver. In the end its your ass, and you need to be sure of what you are diving. This goes for dive instruction as well. If nothing else having mix information available on the net allows you to get enuf of a sense to know whether your mix instructor is FOS. Information does not kill. Even bad information does not kill. Failure to verify bad information kills. Notice the verb "verify". That is an action taken by a person.. the diver. If you want to talk about information killing, you and Volker need to become best buds. He has the same (mistaken) impression. (see "Dangerous on the Net" in the archives.) I certainly do not always agree with Jim, but I applaud anyone making information available. Its a bit easier than digging it all out myself, though again in the end its up to me to verify the info before I use it. And before I bet my life on it, I do. Al thinks I'm too callous, but as I've said before... let the buyer beware. It doesn't matter if its cold and harsh, no other system of protection works.
