TDI Australia & New Zealand is pleased to announce their support &
involvement in the 1998 Expedition to positively identify the WW1
Australian Submarine the AE2, lost in the Sea of Marmara off Turkey in
April 1915. Run from 26 September - 08 October 1998, the project is
lead by Dr Mark Spencer of Sydney Australia, and follows in the foot
steps of an original expedition in 1997.

An extremely important part of Australia's national maritime history the
project is the result of many sponsors including TDI, The Royal
Australian Navy, Compaq Computers Australia, Abyssmal Diving Inc, The
Channel Nine Network of Australia, Pro Diving Services (Australia),
Telstra, Singapore Airlines, The Rami Koc Museum (Istanbul), Maxwell
 Optical Industries and many others.

Diving to depths of 73msw / 240fsw the project intends to return
documented evidence of the AE2 wreck for use by Turkish & Australian
Maritime Archeologists also involved in the project.

Diving will be conducted off the Rami Koc Museum's research vessel
the MV Saros using a helium based mixed gas open circuit SCUBA of 16%
Oxygen, 50% Helium & 34% Nitrogen. Due the the extreme depths &
repetitive nature of the dives decompression will be conducted using
two oxygen/nitrogen Nitrox mixtures on tables calculated on the
Abyss 2.0 Advanced Dive Planner run onboard two Compaq Armarda Laptops.
In addition, the reseach vessel will also carry a Mixed Gas
Recompression Chamer & a hyperbarice physician, Dr Akin Toklu from
 Ankara, Turkey.

The project will incorporate the extreme edge of communication
technology, with the digital images recorded on a Nikon Coolpix 900
digital camera on loan from Maxwell Optical Industries sent via a
Telstra Mini-Satellite phone using the Compaq Armarda Computers to
the AE2 page on the Australian Navy's web site.

To follow the project on the web, the address is
 http://www.navy.gov.au/9_sites/AE2/

A colour spread on the AE2 can be found this weekend in Melbourne's
Sun-Herald. Coverage will also be seen on Channel Nine.

Diving is planned to start on Wednesday 30 September.

Please forward all emails to either this address or Dr Mark Spencer on
