No, PBS. Like ALMOST everyone, kirvine is quite aware that the correct 
word is moot. The use "mute" was intentional, an oblique reference to 
The Master of malapropism. What he should have written to make
this absolutely clear is:
   .... besides it is a mute (sic) point.
