You know, it's sad. Christina takes the time to join this discussion group and join in the discussions but doesn't actually take time to read and understand the posts to which she feels it necessary to respond. BTW, this is actually the second time during this thread that someone has done this. Anyway, to make it easy for Christina, let me re-iterate. I made two basic points: 1. It is naive to assume that people who take things from wrecks are only doing so to preserve artifacts. 2. IMHO life is worth more than brass. Okay, for those able to maintain a line of thought. On point 1 (aside from some good points made by others in response to Christina) I don't object to the saving of artifacts per se, but some people often do it to simply salvage scrap. The problem is that the things they scrap may very well be artifacts deserving of preservation. Also, as a wreck tourist, my pleasure is spoilt if everything has been removed. Why should someone as selfish as Christina be allowed to enjoy her diving at the expense of mine (rhetorical)? On point 2, I don't think this is extreme. I think it is extreme to draw the conclusion from my statements that I am an animal rights extremist. Those who know me would probably testify that I'm about as much an activist or extremist as your average doornail. But that is beside the point. It is my opinion and normally personal opinions are tolerated on the internet. > Sorry you all, maybe a newsgroup on rec.scuba.philosophy should be > started. Let's get back to talking about technical diving. I'm > getting tired of this debate. Then don't follow it. Your narrow minded perception on what constitutes appropriate material for this group is of little consequence. It ran perfectly well for several years before you arrived and I'm sure it will continue happily should you decide to leave. We have had many useful discussion on the philosophy of technical diving and why people do certain things. Personally, I see no incongruity in discussing what people see as important in wreck diving. So for Christina let me just keep it simple: if you don't like a thread, don't follow it. Alan alan@mi*.de*.co*.uk* Is it true that Christina is an ichthyoligist in her day job?
