Has anyone used pressure compensated gel cell batteries underwater before? I heard about the U.S. Navy evaluating this technique a while back. The pressure compensation technique involves placing a needle port in the top of the battery case and injecting mineral oil into the headspace of the battery case. Once sealed terminal contacts are attached, the batteries supposedly can be used underwater without a sealed pressure housing.
