John,
Novel idea. Supply a good product at a reasonable price and get
lots of return customers;-) This particular shop is very conveniently
located near Peacock, so I guess that is their reasoning - pay for
convenience. I don't quite understand the surcharge for using your
own O2 though. Seems like I'm paying for air, it's not quite the same
as taking a steak into a restaurant and asking them to cook it for
you. Actually, I'd never do that anyway, I'd just bury it in a
shallow grave out back.
Those membrane systems are costly. Sure can buy a lot of K
cylinders for what you'd spend for one. In contrast, the last time I
was in WPB Nitrox fills were $5, air was $3, but they were doing
partial pressure fills. That's a long drive up to Peacock, though.
Even at $3-$5 surcharge per fill, it would still beat the price
they want for a Nitrox fill. Even at say..... $8 to fill a set of
doubles and add the surcharge. Still beats the $25. What they will
end up with here is a lot of people bringing in their cylinders and
not telling them what is in them. That will cause a potentially bad
situation.
Nobody likes to be mugged at the fill station, but it's their shop.
I guess it's either pay it or go somewhere else. Sounds like a good
argument to drag along another set of tanks to avoid getting a fill
there.

Mike
