while diving in mexico i could not help but get involved in the local cave diving politics.....the issue was the addition and then ordered removal of line markers from a number of cave systems.....because i am a cave diver and not a politician, i confronted the person who gave the removal order and the persons doing the removal and was told to mind my own business and this was "our little game" and i did not know anything that was going on...i returned to the states with a safety concern for fellow cave divers....so i contacted nss/cds and nacd to ask for help expressing a safety issue...although i did get positive comments from 3 board members...the rest that responded to me told me they were not the cave police and there was nothing they could do...the issue would be brought up at the next meeting.....i said this cannot wait until the next meeting that someone will die before then....but still no positive action....instead comments were made to discredit my observations. the boards have known of a problem in the yucatan with the removal of line markers and lines for some time and nothing is done.......i can only wonder if the recent deaths in myan blue could have been avoided with cave police....or board members with a better understanding of .....POLITICS and SAFETY ........... -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
