Subject: RE: misdirection?
Ken -- I distinctly remember your saying that the bends was fixable but
death was a lot worse. "the bends can be fixed, death cannot." Did you say
"bubbles can be fixed"? Did you say "*sometimes* the bends can be fixed"?
Did you *qualify* your statement at all -- or just lay out a very
misleading statement, as if it were complete/factual, for all to see?

Did you say it or not?

Ken, it is simply *not true* that the bends can be "fixed" with certainty.
For some it's permanent paralysis, permanent damage to a lesser degree but
still causing impairments/disabilities, incl. loss of motor/muscle control,
life-long nerve damage, etc. -- and *the end of diving* for that
individual. There are 1st world divers, not just poor, ill-equipped,
untrained divers, who are screwed/crippled because of the bends. Can
you/will you tell us how many of your friends/teammates have "retired" due
to getting hit so severely and have now sold all their gear?

Yours was quite a striking pronouncement -- as well as being wrong and
misleading. It was in regard to a diver deciding the question of skipping
deco.

Seems it was shortly after your last bends hit at Wakulla. How many hits
and/or chamber rides have you had? Are you "fixed" now? Just like new, are
you?

Since you're the team statistician -- and can make a list "proving" that
every cave diver who ever died was a victim of deep air -- can you now tell
us the statistics of bent divers at Wakulla over the last 5 years or so?
That would be useful info to all us know-nothings out here who have been
lead to believe that getting bent to shit isn't worth mentioning.

Isn't the bends a diving injury? How does a diving operation claim to have
a "perfect safety record" -- when there are diving injuries that have take
place at Wakulla (including your own) -- except by ignoring them and
intentionally leaving them out of all the reports? Wouldn't that be
irresponsible/misleading/dishonest?

Next Ken says:

>I take it you stand in the let your buddy die crowd? Please, this is
>very important to understand so anyone who might potentially dive
>with you is aware of the risks up front.

>At least, from what I understand, Chris Brown, the guy who misquoted
>me, did the right thing in regards to blowing off deco to save his
>buddy at Eagles Nest.

Yes, as you well know, I did exactly what I saw as necessary/right -- in
spite of the risk of permanent injury. I did not abandon him but brought
him out and fought to save him all the way. And very clear in my mind
during the incident were two very fine examples of the proper behavior in
this kind of scenario -- two divers who acted responsibly, calmly,
effectively in bringing out/saving drowned divers in prior incidents: Bill
Stone and Woody Jasper. Two gentlemen usually derided as "the usual
suspects" by your leader/exemplary human being.

>Chris Brown, let me ask you this, because you misquoted me on this
>subject

I didn't misquote you. You said "the bends can be fixed" -- and said it
*without qualification*.

>are you now saying that if you could go back and do it over
>again you'd just let your friend die rather then try everything in
>your power to save him (even though ultimately he died anyway).

ABSOLUTELY NOT, KEN. I DID NOT SAY THAT -- *YOU SAID THAT* about me. I
haven't changed my mind and -- and as shown by my actions that time, you
know what I believe and how I would act. My standards of behavior are
well-proven -- and they *agree* with your purported ones.

Your question, however is *another* intentional skewing and misdirection. I
questioned the validity of your statement -- and you try to make it sound
as if I have reversed my values/behavior. As if my behavior would be any
different from what I already demonstrated -- just because I dispute the
validity of your statement.

Two separate arguments: where you create an invalid relationship, invalid
connection, invalid conclusion. Unrelated, does not follow, illogical,
impertinent, despicably/intentionally misleading = Standard Operating
Procedure.

Are you getting the impression that, as more and more list-readers/divers
stand up to your kind of bullshit, your team's support base and credibility
are eroding?

Try this:

george on June 16, *1997*:

"As you know , we have produced our WORKING mapper for 1/90th of the
amount of money these guys are soaking King for."

How about some j-pegs of the WKPP mapper and maps -- now that it's over a
year old?

Ooooops.
