Save the gas. Or don't, say hi to Dave Feeney (who I have met only two or three times, and probably doesn't remember me at all.) And why not cross the Verazanno, and come to the SISD meeting. Call Zero for time and place - first Tuesday of the month. When enough people tell me that they want to know my dive experience, which flatters and astonishes me, of course I will. But please nobody tell bdi, the guy who wanted it as a way of attacking me. You could have got (most) the information from the archives: http://www.aquanaut.com/bin/mlist/aquanaut/techdiver/from?Wrolf Especially: Mar 25 1993 Introduction http://www.aquanaut.com/bin/mlist/aquanaut/techdiver/display?165,from Jun 30 1994 Wrolf's Announcements http://www.aquanaut.com/bin/mlist/aquanaut/techdiver/display?1780,from Jul 31 1997 Wrolf rejoins the list http://www.aquanaut.com/bin/mlist/aquanaut/techdiver/display?22505,from Dives: About 150. I promised myself a replacement of the old log book at 100 dives. Haven't yet got the replacement, sort of lost track. Certifications: Israeli Diving Federation/CMAS ** 1983; PADI AOW; IANTD Nitrox. Hey - one less than GIII! My technical range is very light: wreck penetrations, air dives with maybe twenty minutes deco. Although I certified in Nitrox 4 years ago, I have only just started diving it. That should explain why I have so many questions. As for giving answers on my own "authority", I hope not! When I have seen information that I feel would be useful, here or elsewhere, I have added links or summaries on my site. I have often then referred newcomers, treating it as a sort of FAQ for techdiver. When I have other good authority, then yes, I might come out with a statement. But I try to avoid that. In two cases, where a need has pushed itself on me, I have responded. An effort to create directories of scuba slang and of terms had lost steam on SCUBA-L. I took the material, HTML'ised it, added many definitions (most of the terms were already there), and published. And kept updating, as my principle co-author, Jan Faust, would find new terms, or the other author, the collective membership of SCUBA-L, would find flaws or additions. As time has gone on, the number of new submissions is near zero, yet the readership of Scuba Terms keeps rising. I believe it to be a valuable resource. Additions and corrections are always welcome, but as the last author in the chain of ownership, and the current maintainer, I take all responsibility for any flaws. The other case has been my Cautionary Tales. In general, all I am trying to do is summarize a big picture of what has gone on, and then give a link to the first person account. Certainly not statements from me, but I was hoping to generate some consensus accounts on techdiver. That consensus, by the way, is hard to generate, and involves a lot of back and forth. If Dr. Lee Somers can be somehow beguiled into setting some grad student into analyzing and tabulating data on tech deaths, a function clearly not now being performed by DAN, IANTD, or TDI, that will be a wonderful thing. Cautionary Tales could then go back to the anecdotal, specific coverage - where first or second hand coverage is readily available, but wants a place to be; and to point to such accounts, and to resources such as a serious academic analysis of tech deaths. -- Wrolf Wrolf's Wreck: http://www.concentric.net/~Wrolf Wrolf's Net.Wreck: http://www.concentric.net/~Wrolf/netmgmt.shtml -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
