Since I have gotten several requests for info on the "Big Wreck" I mentioned in an earlier post, here is what I know. It appears to be an oil tanker, probably of WW II vintage. It seems to have been depth charged, whatever else happened to it. All I know of its location is that it is somewhere in the vicinity of the Texas Tower, about 6 hours out from Captree. Steve Bielenda of the Wahoo has the numbers, and judging from the fact that many of the passengers Saturday were dive boat captains (Phil Galetta, Zero, Eric Takajian, etc.) I would guess nobody else has them. This weekend was the second time the wreck has been dived. It's 185 to the sand, with most of the wreckage at about 170-180. There are some big intact pieces rising to 160 or even a little higher. Vis was excellent, well over thirty feet, maybe even 50. In the morning, there was a healthy current on the wreck which somewhat impeded my progress on the first (gas) dive, so I didn't get too far past the boilers. In general I don't like to stray too far when on air, so I didn't explore much farther on the second dive even though the current had subsided. Hank Garvin came up with a porthole and I brought up a cage lamp, but none of the really serious artifacts have come up yet. I think most people were just exploring it, and the current didn't help much. Joel Silverstein was there taking pictures on the surface which will probably appear in Sub Aqua sooner or later. Zero was taking pictures on the bottom, and will probably be happy to show them to any who knows him. John Heimannj@ma*.nd*.gt*.co*
