<html><div>Wrolf,</div>
<br>
<div>A reasoned set of questions deserves a reasoned reply.  Yes I
did put the comment "YOU WON'T BELIVE WHY" in the subject
line.  I did that because I could not imagine anyone in this forum
being stupid enough to take a drug with a know sedating effect before a
dive of this type.  I guess I was wrong about that!  The use of
any drug at depth is a medical experiment at best.  There is simply
not enough data available to determine what the potential side effects
may be during a deep tri mix dive.  I personally think that if you
need a drug to feel well enough to do the dive you should not do the
dive! PERIOD.  With side effects ranging from dry mouth and
drowsiness to fainting (source PDR) I don't see how any rational person
could justify taking Dramamine prior to a deep dive.</div>
<br>
<div>I have not been able to determine which Dramamine he preferred
before his dive.  None of his regular dive buddies want to
talk.  The ME's final report has not yet been made available.
Even if it were now available I am not sure if he would do the testing
necessary to turn up antihistamines.  That may never be proven by
the ME's report.</div>
<br>
<div>Lets take another quick look at what IS known;</div>
<br>
<div>Richard's mix was suitable for the dive.  19/30 is hotter than
I would chose, but for the short exposure of his dive plan it is
adequate.</div>
<br>
<div>The ME reported the COD as drowning.  Richard did NOT have a
heart attack or stroke.  Both were specifically ruled out.</div>
<br>
<div>There is NO evidence that Richard even attempted to breath the wrong
gas at depth.  Both stage bottles were stowed, turned off and not
even charged when he was found.</div>
<div>His primary reg was in his mouth and his backup was stowed as you
would expect to find his unused reg.  The first thing I would do in
the event my primary reg quit delivering gas is go to my backup.
There was no evidence that he had done that.</div>
<br>
<div>All of his gear was in place.  And he was not entangled.
None of this proves he did or did not tox but I would be troubled by such
a conclusion with out some other supporting evidence.</div>
<br>
<div>Now from what I know about Richard I EXPECTED to find on of two
causes for his death.</div>
<br>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab>1)<x-tab> </x-ta
b>Richard
was poor at his gas management.</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>I
expected to find some sign that he ran out</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>of
gas at depth.  His back gas WAS empty.</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>However,
there was no sign that he was</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>conscious
when that occurred.</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab>2)<x-tab> </x-ta
b>The
state of MI license plate on his van was</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>"DEEPAIR".
Do I need to explain further?</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>There
was no evidence that he used air for</div>
<div><x-tab>    </x-tab><x-tab>
;</x-tab>any
of his dives during this charter.</div>
<br>
<div>I would have been more than happy to prove first reactions
right.  But the evidence would not support such conclusions.
The facts are that there is no other conclusion that I can draw:</div>
<br>
<div>In my opinion and based on the information I have, Richard died as a
result (direct or indirect) of the sedative effect from Dramamine taken
before his last dive.  He was either not conscious or was to
"mellow" to care when his gas ran out.</div>
<br>
<div>I know there are a few MDs DOs and other PhDs on the list and I
would be interested in hearing their thoughts.  However, no one with
any credentials has posted me or the list to refute my
conclusion.</div>
<br>
<div>
As for Zero,  I have known PhDs that were to stupid to tie their own
shoes.  Einstein was known to defecate in his pants.  AS, BS, MS and
PhD means little to me without the ability to reason and think outside there
area of education.  He could be the best there is in his field.  But
if he takes Dramamine while diving, then he is clueless about diving as far as
I am concerned!!!</div>
