Mr. Cobb, You do a superb job at illustrating your own ignorance about the SpD. You could avoid looking so silly if you would simply take a little time and study up on this light. <<< -It is really stupid to put your power switch on the light head. This means that the entire cord is "live" at all times when the battery is plugged in. This further means that you have to fuse the lamp because of this. And students, what is a fuse? Right! A horrible failure point. Also head switches are prone to failure due to their convoluted reed switches and jam-prone tight tolerances. >>> The SpD has NO fuse at all. No failure point here. Any questions? Please read the specs before you make a fool of yourself. <<< -A cannister on the belt is removable underwater. So if you have your gear configured for no weightbelt it can be easily ditched if you need additional flotation. >>> Are you saying that the light you use is negative?? <<< -Another advantage of easy removeablility is if you get it tangled. You can pull it off, clear the snag and put it back on. You can't do this with the spd or any other tank mounted light. >>> I can easily remove my SpD underwater. You just reach back and do the toggle pin, and it comes right out. <<< -Cobbling together a makeshift goodman handle out of PVC is BS. To do it righ you need to have a lighthead wish has one designed in. >>> Ridiculous. It doesn't make one bit of difference whether one is put on at the factory or by you. The still perform the same function well. <<< -As far as the argon tank is concerned, the if the folks that have it on the side of the tank are doing it right it should be velcroed on and easily removable. What *is* really stupid is having it metal-to-metal fastened to your backplate on in an unreachable spot like in the gully on the back of your doubles. That is a brain-dead stroke way to do it. >>> This is really amazing that you complain below about streamlining, and here you describe a totally unstreamlined way of carrying an argon bottle! Please, at least be consistent. Carrying the bottle sticking out on the side this way in the Mud Hole is a mono magnet. And velcro adds additional risk of loss. I lost a bottle attached with velcro this way in the open ocean about 6 or 7 years ago. <<< -Finally on your belt the cannister is in a streamlined position in the wake of your right arm. Tank mounts ruin your streamlining, wearing you out. >>> Do you think that tank mounts for argon bottles may also wear you out, Mr. Cobb?? These have a much less streamlined profile than the SpD. <<< I am glad that Christina has good luck with her light, but I prefer putting my money into a product that has been tested a bit more strenuously then what she has put her spd through, which is the case with AUL 14 type units. >>> I'm so glad that you know what kind of dives I've put my SpD through. Since I've never met you or even heard of you until now, I'm really dieing to know how you know this information. I haven't criticized the AUL 14 at all, and I'm sure they work well in caves. But they are just too bulky for most kinds of wreck diving I've done. Cheers, Christina _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
