Widows of divers file suit vs. Riviera Beach dive Shop, Sun Sentinel, August 6th, Section B, p. 1 <<Survivors of two men who disappeared during a technical dive off Riviera Beach in January have filed a lawsuit in federal court against the company that took the divers out to sea. Andre Smith, 57, Mike Elkins, 36, and John Claypool, 35, a West Palm Beach police detective, disappeared while diving to the Classic Barges reefs, Palm Beach County's deepest artificial reefs. After Elkins had a problem 253 feet below the ocean surface, he, Smith and Claypool failed to surface. The lawsuit, filed by the widows of Elkins and Claypool, say Divers Supply of Riviera Beach is to blame for the accident. The suit also named the estate of Smith as a defendent. Nicolas Sakellis, the Coral Gabels attorney representing the widows, declined to comment. Bill Turbeville, the Boca Raton attorney representing the dive shop and Smith's estate, said he has not seen the lawsuit, but said he will argue that the disappeareances were an accident.>> Now what were we saying about responisibilty of operations. If this guy wasn't so overwighted this would not of happened! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
