The key statement, Steve, is *doing deco* using ponies as your backup.
Deco is the key, Steve. One more time, in case you missed it, doing deco
with a single and depending on or even using a pony in your total gas
bill is a stupid strokeish way to do things.

To recap, decompression diving on a single while depending and/or using a
pony bottle is a stupid fucking thing to do. Even with a backplate and
wings.

For those with short attention spans:

Single + Deco = big no-no.

Single + pony + deco, still big no-no.

I would like to point out that I, James M. Cobb, do not do decompression
diving with a single tank, and yes, a pony is a better bet than a "buddy"
you don't know from Adam in this, and only this, scenario.

-----------------------------
And now for the quiz, Steve:

1. If you want to do deco diving, what rig do you use?

a) A single tank
b) A single tank with a pony
d) Isolated doubles

2. If you are a dumb stroke who is too cheap or stupid to purchase
isolated doubles and wants to do deco diving, and has absolutely no
regard for his or his buddy's life you use:

a) A single tank
b) A single tank "hogarth rigged"
c) A single tank with a "hogarth rigged pony"

3. If you are on a deep wreck where the no-deco bottom time is about 7
min's and you see someone with a single tank with a pony gearing up for
the dive, do you:

a) invite him to be your buddy.
b) extend your first dive bottom time because between the body recovery
and the coast guard chopper extraction there's no way in hell there's
going to be a second dive.
c) evaluate the divers regulators and fins for possible salvage value.

-------------------------------
The Answers!

1. d
2. All of the above
3. b. For those who thought "c", a stroke that stupid probably has Dacor
fins and a Sherwood Brute regulator.

 Jim
