Bob, just for the scorecard, for which agency was this guy an instructor? The fact is that we have had more INSTRICTORS die in the last year than we have had total tech deaths in the previous four years. We have had more total "tech" deaths in the last year than in the previous six years. I have done six dives this year with 300 foot bottom times exceeding three hours and done two 12,000 foot cave dives, two 14,000 foot cave dives, and two 7500 foot cave dives. My team has conducted 140 man dives at 300 feet with exposures of 25 to 100 minutes each at the same time, and another 400 man dives in the 150-250 range with similar or longer times. The support team has conducted another 500 dives. In addition, I have done over TWENTY body recovery dive attemps this year alone, and am currenty standing by to do another series of dives when the research vessel combing the Florida coast for signs of the divers missing from the Divers Supply/IANTD disaster call me with a target. Bob, I have done this kind of diving for many years now, and have seen the metamophasis from a sport ( "tech" diving ) where an accident was an anomaly ( other than the deep air diving attempts which were no suprise ever ) to where "accidents" are the NORM. During that time I have seen some of the absolte worst low IQ dumb asses come to the forEfront in developing and teaching the techniques that are causing the accidents. I personally am sick of it. You guys do not realize the presure you are applying to the sport and its participants, its insurers, its manufacturers and its longevity as a legitimate activity. Jacques Cousteau died of old age - what kept him alive has excaped most of the dive community.
